This year's India's Republic Day, 26th January 2017, also marks the entry of Saturn in the sign of Sagittarius. This transit of Shani in Dhanu rashi is happening after a gap of 26 years and this transit has not been easy for the ruling party in India. The last time Shani came in Sagittarius it caused great political instability in India and in other countries of the world. Let us see how it will affect India, other nations and the common people in general.
Now, some details about this year's transit, the previous transits and the next transit of Shani in Dhanu rashi. Saturn enters Sagittarius at 12:24 Hrs GMT or 17:54 Hrs India time on 26th January 2017. It will become retrograde in Sagittarius on 6th April 2017 and will retrograde back into its previous sign of transit, Scorpio, on 21st June 2017.
Shani will get into a direct motion on 25th August 2017, will re-enter Dhanu rashi on 26th October 2017 and will stay there till 24th January 2020. So, 2017 we will have a small four month transit of Shani back in Vrishchik rashi after this 26th January 2017 change of Saturn's sign to Dhanu.

The six and a half months long yuti of Rahu and Brihaspati in Simha Rashi ends today as Jupiter moves to Kanya Rashi. This heaviest of all nine planets will stay in Virgo till 12th September 2017 transiting in this sign of Mercury for thirteen months. Jupiter completes the round of the twelve signs in around twelve years.
Brihaspati's previous transit in Kanya was from 27th August 2004 to 28th September 2005. Its next transit after this 2016-17 one will be from 26th November 2027 to 26th December 2028. But, that 2027-28 transit in Kanya will not be a consistent one as Jupiter will retrograde back into Leo on 28th February 2028 and will re-enter Virgo on 24th July 2028.

The celestial shadowy serpent has moved houses today with its head, Rahu, leaving Kanya and entering Simha, and its tail, Ketu, leaving Meen and entering Kumbh. This transition of Rahu-Ketu from dual natured signs to fixed signs has happened in the early hours today. These two chhaya grahas Rahu and Ketu will stay in this Leo-Aquarius axis till 18th August 2017 and will then enter the movable signs Cancer and Capricorn.
The previous transit of Rahu in the Leo and Ketu in Aquarius was from 24th June 1997 to 11th January 1999. The next such transit will be from 5th September 2034 to 24th March 2036. Rahu and Ketu have a steady and approximately eighteen month long transit in a sign and they return in the same sign after a period of around eighteen years.
