Padmarag

Padmarag is the Sanskrit name for an orange, orange-pink or pink variety of Sapphire. This is a very rare variety of Sapphire and is the second rarest after the green Sapphires which are called the Oriental Emeralds. Padmarag in Sanskrit means 'one having the colour of a lotus'. The usual yellow or pale sapphires are called 'Pushparag', which means 'having the colour of a flower'. Pushparag has become the now popular term 'Pukhraj' which is the most common word used for Sapphires in India.

Padparadscha

Padparadscha is the Sinhalese name for an orange, orange-pink or pink variety of Sapphires. This is a very rare variety of Sapphire and is the second rarest after the green Sapphires which are called the Oriental Emeralds. Padparadscha means 'Lotus Blossom' in Sinhalese. This term has come from the word Padmarag in Sanskrit which means 'one having the colour of a lotus'.

Panna

Panna is the Hindi term for the gemstone Emerald. In Indian sub continent this gemstone is commonly known as Panna. Interestingly, in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India there is a place too by the name Panna. But, instead of having any connection with emeralds, it is known for its diamond mines which are still producing diamonds.

Pukhraj

Pukhraj has come from the Sanskrit term 'Pushparag'. The usually available yellow or pale sapphires are called 'Pushparag', which means 'having the colour of a flower'. Pukhraj is the most common term used for Sapphires in India.


The rare orange, orange-pink or pink variety of Sapphire is called Padmarag in Sanskrit which means 'one having the colour of a lotus'.
