What is Vimshottari dasha in Jyotish? Print

Vimshottari Dasha is the most popular dasha system in Jyotish. Although there are numerous other dasha systems in Jyotish, Vimshottari dashas are the most widely used dashas.

Vimshottari dasha covers 120 years of human life. It is calculated on basis of the Nakshatra of Moon in the natal chart or the horoscope.

The Vimshottari dasha of 120 years is divided into nine parts with each part being governed by a planet. These nine parts are called Mahadashas. Then each of these nine parts or Mahadashas is sub-divided in nine more parts which are called Antardashas. These Antardashas are further divided in nine parts called Prtyantardashas.

This way the sub division goes on: Mahadasha, Antardasha, Pratyantardasha, Sookshmadasha, Praanadasha and Dehadasha.

These dashas govern the different stages in a person's lifecycle. These are very necessary to study and understand to precisely predict the events in a person's life.
